Rachel Goodchild | Creating Pattern
Another lovely lockdown project was inspired by the iconic Clarice Cliff and her hand-painted china range. Clarice Cliff's vibrant colours and 1920s imagery have a timeless charm that have always captured my imagination. This made them a a perfect source of inspiration for a really lovely Lockdown project.
As a fellow collector of china, I wanted to re-illustrate some of Clarice Cliff's designs for the sheer joy of it. The process of recreating the patterns was a fascinating exploration into the intricate details of Cliff's work. Each stroke of the brush, each burst of vibrant color, became homage to a masterful artist.
My ultimate goal was to derive a Clarice Cliff pattern that I would love to have in my own home — Something that was beautiful and gave me joy. In the end, the project was a fusion of admiration for Clarice Cliff and her work and creativity, with also the simple pleasure of creating something beautiful for the pure joy of it.
